Club History
The Sabres started out at Avondale Recreation Centre,
Stockport in January 1999 when we booked the hall for an hour
just for a game with no intentions of starting a club. A year
later we had two teams taking on other teams from all over the
area.
When we did decide to start the team we found it difficult
to get players and a decent venue. After a while we decided to
join forces with another local club playing, and training at Priestnall
Recreation Centre, also in Stockport (not the Manchester Pumas!!).
Things didn't work out and we split from them in July 1999 and
carried on on our own under the name Stockport Sabres (after we
went a couple of weeks under different names such as Offerton
Orphans!!).
In September 1999 we entered a Pee-wee team into the
GMIHL (Greater Manchester Inline Hockey League) and a Senior team
into the NSIHL (National Senior Inline Hockey League). Both teams
have had mixed fortunes.
So far our junior team have come 3rd in a tournament
held in September 1999 and our peewee team have come 2nd in their
division. Not bad for our first season!
Now after a stint at Avondale Recreation Centre in
Edgeley we are back at Arcadia, Levenshulme on a Sunday night
(6-9pm).
